The 04 X-types have the upgraded transfer cases, so the likelihood of having a transfer case issue is decreased. As for other problems, it is hit and miss like with any other car. I will tell you that in general, parts are going to cost more for a vehicle like this. But then, you are also driving a much nicer car. So, pay a little to enjoy a lot.

As for the price of the car, that isn't too far off from what they normally sell for. I would just make sure on the clutch as you will be nearing time to get a new clutch put into the car depending on how the previous owner drove the vehicle. It can get a little pricey because of the number of things that need to be removed to access the clutch. Also, what sort of options does the car come with? I have a 2004 X-Type 3.0. I don't have anything bad to say because I've never had any problems (I've had it coming up on four months). If you can get a good deal on a nicely maintained vehicle, I think it would be a good choice.
