I have a 2005 jaguar X type five speed manual all wheel drive 2.5 L engine was driving down the road in second gear let off accelerator and when I re-accelerated car would not move just engine revved. What is tore the clutch likely came apart replace the clutch everything looked fine want to put back together car still Transmission makes noise When shifted into third fourth and fifth but will not move. If placed into a gear with engine off car rolls freely. Linkage is good, no changes when shifting by hand at the transmission. Please help I have no idea what is wrong. Car is always shifted smooth no noises or problems and it did not make a noise when this started

 

Chojo82, from what you describe, sounds like your transfer case is the source of your problem. I would say to start with putting the car up on 4 jackstands so you can attempt to roll the wheels without the car moving. I would start with doing an inspection of the transfer cases. In some cases, the transfer case structure (the case of the TC) actually split, resulting in what you are seeing. I would use a long screw driver shoved through 1 front wheel and 1 rear wheel. Then with the help of another person, have them roll the 2 free wheels as you are under the front of the car. I would venture to guess that you are going to hear a metallic clicking sound in either the transfer case or the output section of the transmission. This would indicate that one of the shafts has sheered and where you hear the click is the part that needs to be overhauled. your probably can't hear this click with the engine running due to the ambient noise. hence why I say to do things this way. You need to lock the one front and one rear wheel to force the driveshaft to turn so you get movement inside the transfer case. Otherwise, you need more people to get all 4 tires spinning in the same direction.
