Default 1 Bad Lug nut = Getting Towed

Ughhh so this Labor Day, im heading to the beach....im about 1/4 mile away from the beach parking lot when I hit this uneven payment on the left lane ofthe highway. Man my Jag bottom out so bad, I felt bad for it. Well I get to park inside the beach and i notice my front passenger tire blew out, flat! so i go to change the wheel and all come off but one. The damn cover on the lug nut starts to get damaged. It wouldn't come off. I tried my best to loosen it up it just kept pissing the top. It so pissed me off. I had no other option but to get towed home. [>:]Why would Jag design a lug nut that way? It just looks so flimsy.

hey man, sorry to hear that. I know all about flats with the damn jag. I had the donut on it twice and towed it once, and stripped the damn stock lug wrench and had to pay to get a tire off once. It'll get better man, have faith.

The lug nuts that lock the wheel into place have a small aluminum cap over the actual metal for decoration. On one of my lug nuts, that aluminum piece separated from the actual metal nut and I couldn'tget the lug nut off. What I did is I took the appropriate socket for the lugs, put an extension on it, aligned the socket with the metal part of the nut until the you could feel where it would slide in under impact, and I hammered that bitch in. I then took the wrench and I took the nut off. It took me a while to figure out what to do, but I'm sure that it would only take me about 30 seconds to do it now...and of course 5 bucks for a new lug nut and socket.

I've had this happen in my Prelude, but I broke 4 lug nuts on a wheel after driving 60 miles on the interstate on a donut. I got to the gas station, and the donut fell off the car and it hit the ground. Man those were the days, lol...

Crazy so im not the only one that has been to this Lug Nut dilema. That aluminum cover sucks. Well I was able to tear it off the nut today. Open it up with a flat tip screw driver. Now im back to driving mode. Although hammering the right socket into the nut, like Big mentioned, isn't such a bad alternative. I felt sad seeing my Jag on the flat bed. Good 'ol AAA. Through this headache I actually learn that I can fit one of my stock 16" wheels in the spare wheel well. Thats sweet. Oh yeah I wasn't carrying a spare. Had my sis bring me 1 of 3 stock rims I had at my home. [8D]

Yeah bo what the heck are you doing defending jag! I'm surprised you aren't on here telling everyone on here what pos jags are-although I do believe you got the only one out of the bunch that was that rotten! BTW hows the jag treating you recently?

Agree it is probably not one to blame Jag for this. When getting tyres changed have you ever seen the fitter put copperslip on the thread and / or use a torque wrench?

Hey bo what was covered under warranty of all that work you stated? I'm curious because the next jag I get will be an s-type r and I will be getting it with warranty whether it be the original or the extended certified one...I want to know what to expect...other than the whole take it in and they wont cover the problem because they couldn't get the car to do it while they had it....The shocks should have been covered shouldn't it??? And the seat motor??? Sorry to hear that bo I still say you should sell and get a different one so you feel better....although your car is like brand new now!!!
