Just getting ready to replace the passenger side rocker skin (the structural stuff underneath is not damaged at all) and the lower side of the a-pillar at 157,000 miles. She takes a new battery every three years, and gets regular maintenance.

AC compressor/condenser/dryer at 140K; replaced the factory water pump at 142K and the puke bottle at about the same time; just did the rear suspension over the summer (shocks, upper and lower control arms, various bushings). Chased down a bad ground over the last week.

Other than wear parts, and the transmission fluid, nothing. Blackstone says the engine is good and that I probably change the oil too often.

She could probably use a new oil pan gasket, and the cats are tired but still pass the sniffers. When she's in for the bodywork, we are replacing the windshield and headliner, and all of the fluids again.

In a word, reliable, comfortable, and fun to drive. Except for the rocker's, she's aged well.

The wheels, on the other hand, suck. Need to get another one fixed. Jag says the wheels are aluminum. I think they forgot to mention "foil".

The X-Type would be successful if Jaguar spend a little more on quality of its component; To my two cent is they keep spects and tolerance to tight, but the components are not up to be expected, just as if the battery juice get little low it will messed up the computer and sensors thus created a lots of issues.

That's true of all Jaguar models and not exclusive to X-Type.

Neighbor told me he bought a new Saturn some number of years ago. At 2 months the alternator went while driving on a 2,500 mile trip. He said it threw all kinds of codes and problems. Engine coughing & wheezing, transmission bucking and up & down dhifting, etc. So maybe not even exclusive to Jags?
