Default 18" tire preference?

What are you guys with 18's using, and how do you like them? I just got some 18" rims, and I'm kind of waiting for 225/40/18Yokohama Avid H4S to come in from a backorder, but since it may be 2-3 more weeks I'm looking for other options. My primary search is a quiet running all-season tire.

i run pirelli pzero nero in 225/40/18 and i love them. super grip and very quiet, and reasonably priced at about $180 each. if you live where it snows, make sure you have another set of wheels with some winter tires though as these things are useless in the snow.

they also have all all season version, which ironically is much cheaper at $137 per tire, but i cannot comment on them.

We were talking toPaul Grantham fromJagat the Jag Visitor Centre in Birmingham last week and one of the topics that cropped up was bigger wheels. He wreckons if |I remember that if you get bigger wheels fitted youmust have the diameter programmed into the message centre or the diff could lock up under heavy braking.

Good thought, but I'm sticking with the O.E. size - 225/40/18 is (close to)the same diameter as my O.E. 205/55/16.

No, I am pretty sure it is the size of the wheel that must be reprogrammed regardless if the rolling diameter is near enough the same as the original.I am going to email him to clarify this.

be interesting to find out. i was under the impression that since there are stock 18" wheels there would be no problems. almost 8 months so far an nothing has happened to me. let's hope it stays that way

I would think that RPM (revolutions per mile of the tire) is the only thing the system would look at, so rim size shouldn't matter.
