Default 20" rims rubbing vertically very bad

Hey, I have a 2002 xtype, I just put a pair of aftermarket 20 inch rims on it (235\30\20), the front drivers side tire is hitting inside the wheel well and it buckled the fender. My mechanic used a rubber mallet and bent it back and further up into the wheel well but it still does it, if I slow right down over any kind of bigger bump or pot hole it doesn't happen, but it can be very frustrating. The passenger front side doesn't do the same thing but slightly rubs the plastic protecter in the wheel well but no damage. Oh FYI, the driver side where's it's happening does not have that plastic protecter in the wheel well. I am at the point of taking them off and putting the factory ones back on but really don't want too cuz they look boss! Here are a few pics, any information, suggestions etc would help guys! Thanks,

Dev0n

Whats the offset and width of your wheels? You might need to roll your fenders or run a 225 or 215 instead of the 235s.

Devon,

You have a fab car, the X~Type is a wondeful all-rounder, but not many will sympathise as I believe the book is 16 - 18".

By adding extra large wheels, I believe you are STRESSING the rest of your LOVELY car, it wont handle and it won't be comfortable!

Take it easy and have a good think, your safety is a good pointer as well as your insurance rocketing if something UNTOWARD occurs like hitting a bump or a pothole and anyone who graces your Jags' interior, the wine/red with the chrome is good enough in my humble, but what do I know, I'm tub-thumping HAPPY WITH MINE!!

Good Luck with your conclusion, Stu

The recommended max rim size is 19" with a 225/35-19 tire. Any larger sizes require suspension or body modifications.

when you go bigger you go out also. you needed to get a different offset to make up for the changes in width. like right now if your at -48 you need to be at like -35 at least maybe even more.

i always added spacer blocks to the springs when i had 20"s on my cars especialy these small ones. it lifts the car just a tad (depending on size of course) and keeps it from sway cutting the side walls. the edge of wheel well up at like a 20degree angle insted of 45 degree and it wont cut tire.

I know it's been done before but these cars were not made to have 20" rims on them. Wait until you hit a pothole, then you will have bigger problems.

Probably will have to roll your fenders... Be careful about cracking paint. The wheels look nice but you will probably have to go with the lowest profile tire you can get.

Ya brother your tires are just plainly too wide, need to back them off to 225s at least and make sure your offset is above 40 to make them tuck more

I have lowering springs installed if thats what you mean. I do rub a bit in the driver rear side when I have a full load in my truck specifically (not really sure why). I do have to take large bumps seriously but I am used to that in a lowered car.
