Default 2001 X type Throttle Controller

Hi All,
While doing a vacuum leak test using a homemade smoke generator, I found some smoke leaking out from the side of the throttle controller (opposite the TP sensor) and in some other places. ( waiting on the main plastic hose that connects the rest rocker cover to the throttle vacuum).

Question,
I am looking for advice on whether it is a good idea to take the controller out and seal it. I tried to find a packing or gasket, and it is not available.

If I did remove it, would I get into trouble with idling?

I cannot find any service information online or any tutorials on YouTube. If anyone can help, it is much appreciated.

Having pulled that piece from a spare that I was given, pulling the actuation motor for the throttle body apart is not something for the faint of heart. Getting it back together is possible, but it is going ot take a lot of work. In short, you have to figure out how to hold some brushes in place that are buried 2 inches in there as you slide the rotor in first. You can't have your fingers and the rotor in the same place. It was quite the challenge to get put back together.

Hi Thermo,

Thank you for your assistance. Do you have any images of the dismantling when you did it? It might motivate me to do this ( or Not).

As an alternative, would it be okay to run a thin bead of silicone on the outer perimeter of the controller to stop the vacuum leak?

Thank you

Sorry, I do not have any pics of when I tore the throttle body apart. I just remember a lot of cussing.

Hi Thermo,

No worries. Thank you for the heads up anyway. Will try to seal the side and hope for the best.

Cheers.
