Default 2002 2.5 l V6 and post 2005 X type

I own the 2002 2.5l Xtype Auto and I hear that the X types made after 2005 have more improvements. Does anyone know what major changes were made on the X type during that year?

I've often wondered that myself but didnt find much of anything other than the cupholders. Why did they have only one cup holder originally anyway!?

Some other minor stuff like they changed the steering wheel audio and cruise controls to these little wheel rocker switches. I prefer the style we (02's) have better with the flat buttons and rocker behind the wheel.

I'd get a loaner X from the dealer every few months, sometimes for a week or two. I noticed that the gas pedal seemed firmer and the seats seemed a little narrower.

Of course there is also the well documented and often argued change in the AWD system that you can find all over this board.

As for the cupholder, perhaps they took up the Germanic thought that you don't have a steering wheel on your coffee table.....

I owned an 03 X 2.5 and, then, an 06 3.0. Some changes I noticed, other than the stuff mentioned before, between the two: The AC condensor coil fins on the 03 were really soft and easily damaged, the coil on the 06 was made of better stuff. The rear calipers of the 06 had some fins cast into them, the ones on the 03 didn't have them. The rear suspension and driveshaft on the 06 looked like it was slightly different. The OEM brake pads on the 06 didn't dust near as bad as the 03's did. Don't know what they did to the transfer case, but the 03 did better on snow than the 06 did. The 06 didn't have an engine cover, but, the 03 did. The doorlock and defroster vent problems were gone by 06 as well. The trunk lid lift assists on my 03 broke and fell off - the ones on the 06 were made much better. The 06 had a mesh grill, the 03 had the vertical bar grill. Some bad stuff I remember - the 03 was pretty quiet at interstate speeds, my 06 had a very noticable drivetrain whine.

Thanks for the information. I will keep my 02X as there are no major changes. It is not giving me any problems anyway.
