Default 2002 Jag x-type 3.0 L Problems!

Hey guys,

This is my first post and I am in need of some assistance. I have a 2002 Jaguar x-type 3.0 L v6. I have had some slight trouble ever since i purchased the vehicle a little over a year ago. I just had the cambers replaced and another problem i was having was the console would give me a "Cruise not Available" notification and flash the check engine and another warning light. The weird part is that the cruise control would always work, it never went out. When this would come on the car would jerk slightly back and fourth and it will not allow you to accelerate. It also shifted hard most times from first to second gear. I took it in a few months ago to a jaguar shop and they told me that the catalytic converters would need replaced and it would solve all the problems. I had the camber joints replaced due to "extreme" wear and the tires aligned (that was an actual problem that was fixed) and the catalytic converters replaced for the other issues. I got my car back and it was sounding like a motor bike. The issues were still there after i paid the $1600 to get it fixed. I was driving it on the highway and every few moments the signals would come back on and it prevented me from driving at all and when i restarted the vehicle it was loud... very loud.. it sounds like there isn't even a muffler on it. Before the car left the shop the mechanic told me rather than the catalytic converters being the issue it is a computer issue and it would cost around $4000 to fix...

I am just looking for some advice on where i could start with a cheaper repair because I do not look to spend $4000 and i would rather just trade in my vehicle (with the computer issue and now the exhaust issue) for a more reliable car.. But i do absolutely love this car and I would hate to see it go. I am a full time student and I realize that the repairs may be costly.. it comes with the jaguar!

Please if you have any suggestions let me know!! Thanks

Make sure you go to the top of the forum and do you intro post or you will not get much help.

So did they put new cats on the car, and after they said it would fix it and it did not?

Have you had the car scanned for codes? The first step is to get the OBD coides scanned and post the numbers that will help decide where to start. Most auto parts stores will do it for free.
If it is in fact the ECM being bad I would suggest these folks for rebuilding. A lot of forum members have had great results with their serrvice. Automotive Scientific Inc. | Quality Rebuilt Automotive Electronics | Rogersville, TN

+1 get codes
also read fuel trims

flashing = severe misfires damaging the cat(s) - do not drive more than you must and do not let it happen again
