Default 2002 Power Drivers Seat

Help... I have a 2002 jag, the drivers seat (power) will move forward and backwards but that is it. Tilt and lower and raise will not work, but (here is the kicker) I can hear the motors running when I push the button(s). I have been reading thread on this site as well as others and everything I'm reading says the seat is a pain to remove and replace. Has anyone came across this problem and if so what was the fix.

Thanks in advance!

Hi srwedd
The seats are easy to remove. I have replaced all my seats and replaced with Sports half leather. Disconnect the battery and wait for 20mins(save the airbags activating). The multiplug is just behind the seat rake lever, this is held together by a small bolt, unscrews and disconnects. 4 bolts hold the seat in-place. unscrew and tip back. Check the wiring first it may have come loose of need cleaning. check the switch with a power meter. if taking the seat completely you'll need to un-bolt the seatbelt.

Jaffa - No worries, I have already decided to take the seat out and see if I can't get it to work.
Thanks Again.

Update--

I was able to get the seat out (pretty easy) and started testing the motors, connectors, etc.., everything tested OK. After doing a bit more research, I read an article that said the gears on the inside of the motor are plastic. My bet guess is that the teeth of the gear are broken or bent. If any one knows where I can get the vertical seat motors (or all 3 motors) I'm all ears.

If you should find a place that you can buy the plastic gears, please send me that information I need a plastic gear myself for the front tilt on my drivers side seat. Seems like plastic gears weren't such a good idea for Jaguar to use in there seats. LOL Thanks

I have this issue with an 04 x that I just purchased. You can hear evrything running when I push the buttons but nothing moves. I do not think all the gears and motors stripped at the same time. Is there a way to manually put the seat in a position forward. It is all the way back and my wife cannot drive. I purchased this for her and would at least like her to drive it. Thanks for the help.

I noticed this thread is kinda old..But I have the same prob too. Was there ever a solution? Are the gears indeed plastic and are they replaceable or do I have to get a whole new seat motor?

Something else I noticed last night driving was that when I hit any of the seat switches the heated set light blinks on the dash. Also if I try to turn onthe heated seat the light comes on as the button is depressed but shuts off immediately after removing my finger. I think I have some sort of wiring issue. I just wish I could slide it formward manually somehow until I figure this out.

I was told today that the sesat issue is the "Instrument pack". I have looked wverywhere and cannot find anything called an instrument pack. Dealer said it was a common issue so I figured I would find something. Does this ring any bells with anyone?

Seems this thread needs a refresher on the answer - I too have the same problem and couldn't find the answer here. I'd love to be able to adjust the driver seat up/down (I'm 6'2" and can't lower the seat) - EXCEPT I did note somewhere someone wrote how to adjust the seat down... but that defeats the point of actually getting the gear / motor to operate the seat properly.

Any gear sources ??

Mark

There is a sort of ECU under the seat, I changed mine when I swapped my seats but that was because of an air-bag sensor indication problem. The gears to these motors are usually suspect as they are a bit experimental. I had to swap one over, pain in the **** to do. As for a manual way to adjust the rake back and forth, I can't see a way of doin it.
