You answered your own question - all in one unit. While it's possible to do anything to any car, I don't recommend trying to change this. You'll end up with an unsightly Hack Job, big-time wiring issues and destroy the value of the car should you try to sell it. What I would do is try to find a used unit (see forum sponsors, eBay, breaker yard), or possibly find a vendor to repair your existing unit. Jaguar sourced thousands of these units; use the internet to find out part number and options. My two cents.

 

I wasn't aware the 2002 had the Nav system so someone may have upgraded it. I believe you can revert to the Electronic screen as the plugs are similar. If you go for the Manual screen where the heater controls are rod operated then it cannot be done.

It is odd that you obviously have the radio and Aircon and demist functions but the screen is not working so my question is have you got a Map DVD in the unit in the boot. If you have try ejecting it and reinserting as it may reset the system.

My 2002 to has the same Nav system with premium sound. So I am thinking this is all stock.

The Nav system was optional on the X-type in all model years including 2001 (UK) and 2002 (NA).
