I have read the other posts on this issue, but not sure what direction to go. Key fob auto lock works intermittently. When it goes out, I sit in the car and lock the drivers door which seems to reset, then it seems to work for a while. However, turning the key in the door handle will always unlock the doors, or using the key fob will always unlock the doors. The same happens intermittently when I use the key in the door - always unlocks, but intermittently locks the doors.

I've oiled the key flap door in the ignition switch, but no difference there and it appears to not be closing 100%; I can still see a little space which tells me that may be the issue?

 

Your assumption is correct. The flap not closing is telling the vehicle your key is in the ignition and doesn't want you let you lock the keys in the car.
Try spraying it with electronic cleaner and then a spray lock lubricant.
