Hi everyone.

The engine in my 2002 X-type seized the other day due to low-no oil, thing is my oil warning light never came on. I heard through the grapevine this happened to someone else and jaguar replaced the engine for free. Has anyone else ever heard of this.

 

You can ask, but I think you are going to find it a hard sell. If the car was new and still under factory warrantee, then I could see them replacing it at that point. But, once the warrantee was expired, I can't see it happening. You can ask, but I think you will get a chuckle out of the service manager for the question. Can't hurt, just don't be insulted when they say no.

 

Thermo is right. It is tough enough to fight something like that even if a car is just outside of warranty, let alone one that is 13 years old. Sorry, but you are out of luck on this on.

That sounds like such a weird situation it would be interesting to know what exactly happened. If you find out please let us know. You hardly ever hear of one of these engines seizing up with no prior issues or warning signs.

 

I guess you weren't regularly checking oil levels like you're supposed to?

 

The oil light could be burnt out. I have a motor with 89k on it. I am sure we can work something out. Its out of a 2004. I believe its a 3.0.
