2002 x type has 129,135 miles won't go forward
I just got my first Jaguar!! But I can't drive it! My cousin towed it from Indiana to my house in upstate NY. It drove fine for her before towing it up. She rented a front tire only tow dolly. When she got here we backed it off the dolly into the drive way. Next day went to test drive it around a school parking lot it wouldn't go forward. Well it went a little bit and the engine revved and would only go an inch or two at a time. It does go in reverse. There are no censor lights on the dash board indicating a problem. Any ideas? Have an appointment next week with a Import Car place that charges almost $100/hr to look at it.

With luck, t will turn out to be a trans fluid leak.
Unfortunately, if the car was towed that far and the drive shaft wasn't removed, being that the car is all wheel drive, the rear wheels were pushing the transfer case and pumps the whole way in from Indiana, and the transmission fluid was not being cooled.

Boy, this situation doesn't sound good if only two wheels were off the ground all that way with the driveline connected. Did you notice like a burned oil type smell at all?
I doubt that U-Haul would take responsibility for what they rented you. I'm hardly a lawyer, but I could easily see them saying they just rented you something you asked for.
Hope it works out as best it can for you, but it sure doesn't sound good from what I have seen posted here so far. Let us know the outcome.

Sorry about your problem.....all these tow dollies have disclaimers on the fenders...and will include "not suitable for rear wheel drive towed vehicles, unless the drive/prop shaft is disconnected"....does not state specifically exclusion of AWD...but I know you have no chance of claiming from Uhaul.
What you are experiencing is somewhat typical of low trans fluid (reverse ok nothing in forward).
I did what you did back in the early '60s....blew out the trans seals (B & W 35 box),
refilled with fluid...ran OK but leaked quite a lot...used a can of stop leak...worked quite well until it was time for a trans. rebuild. Although, in this instance, we did not tow over, anything like, the mileage you probably did.
Look in the forum for "transmission drain refill", to see where the fluid level plug is, and try a refill with Castrol Import Multi Vehicle ATF (Walmart is the cheapest for this).
Be very CAREFULL to locate the right plug....if you undo some of the other bolts around that area bad things can happen.
FYI the X Type owner's manual specifically warns against towing with front wheels off the ground.
Hope its just seals and a refill.....not too sure but you could have some issues with the
transfer case and/or viscous coupling...I'll have to think about that one.
