2002 x type - looking to buy
hi need your help guys. i have always been with mercedes and now im looking to own a jag because of its regal look. apart from that i am also very concened with its reliability.
i have read a lot of reviews about the x type and it has a reputation for having a such a bad auto transmission. problems here and there.
now im looking at this stick shift x type, 2.5 i think with, 80,000+ miles. should i go for it? i know tht i cannot expect it to be as solid as a mercedes but at least will it be fairly reliable like a lexus?

I got a 2003 with 45000 miles last year, because it had a Select Edition warranty (no extra charge, just need to get one from the Jag *********** with less than 50K miles). When I took the cat in for her last $700 60K service they fixed the steering rack seal and an oil pan gasket leak... my assumption is that woulda cost me around $2K to fix if it weren't for the warranty.

I am not a Jag expert by any means, but when I talked to the shop I trust very much that has done work on my Vette and my old WS6 TA (Chuck's Imports in Darien, IL)... I asked him, I am thinking of buying a used Jaguar, what do you think. He almost flipped out and said stay away from them in horror, then he got a breath of air and asked what year... I said 2003 X-Type, he said go for it. Looks like before Ford bought Jag, they were riddled with problems.

thanks for the tip sir.. hmmm im still uncertain. well the look of the x and s is really captivating! i just love it. its sexy and classy. im already tired of the classy and imperial look of benz. i live in calif and out here, gas is expensive so i need a smaller vehicle since i drive alone most of the time.

i don't know what your budget is, but if you shop around and take your time you can get a good deal. i just purchased a 2004 2.5 stick x-tpe with 23k miles for $16.5. the previous owner had bought the original extended warranty to 75k. sunroof, heated seats, parking sensor.

i dont really have a huge budget for it but there is one being sold for 10000. thats cheap for a 2002 x type. however it has 86000 miles. but im really scared to go for it because of the not so nice comments that i have read about it. i just like the way it looks. sexy, classy and matured. im so used to MBZ's which are really durable and can exceed 200,000 miles but i know i cannot rally expect that from a jag. hhmmm wel see what happens then
