Hi all need some advice i found a car for sale with transmission problem its a 2002 x type sport version 3.0 stick shift transmission just what i been looking for .the seller is a student at the local UV.and cant afford to repair and is giving me a great deal on it .i have an s type currently no exp. with x type , the seller says the transmission just stopped shifting [no clutch action pedal] is this year x type manual tranny reliable or a problem tranny? i am taking a chance if there are more problems. the car is at the 100 k mark original clutch.

I have changed out many trannys never a jaguar manual tranny ... how is this job? it needs a new clutch...
the local auto shop where the car was towed to told me the clutch is shot and they want 1000 dollars to change the clutch out.

 

Sam, I have the exact car that you are looking into buying. The auto xtypes have problems and the transfer case is a little bit weak, but the manual trannys are very strong! To me, it seems like the master or slave cylinder went SOL and blew out the clutch. To pull a transmission (which I have never heard of needing to be replaced) you will have to pull the transfer case and then the transmission. To get to the clutch you will need to do the same thing. I have 116.5k on my original clutch with no problems, but it's starting to feel mushy and I drive it very cautiously so I would say the clutch is out. I payed 5700 for my xtype and now the 5spd sport xtype are becoming very rare (I flew out 2k miles just to grab mine.) If you don't want it, I will come pick it up. You will love driving the last manual jag every made!
