2002 x-type starting issue
Last night the wife 02 x-type stalled out 2 blocks from home and she couldn't get it restarted. It had to be flat towed home. It has 1/4 tank of gas and the battery is only about 6 months old. Car will not restart. I tried numerous times last night as well as this morning. Tuesday she had to try two times to start it in the morning-usually starts right up on first try. No problem Wednesday morning as well as numerous time during the day on Wednesday. Checked the fuses-nothing looked bad. It does have a clicking noise coming from the passenger side of the engine compartment when the key is switched on--no clicking from the starter.
The local Jaguar dealership is about 115 miles from our home and the local Ford dealer where it was bought doesn't service them any longer --don't have code reader is their explanation.
Any ideas or thoughts on the problem? The 02 had a water pump replaced last week at the Ford dealer but there should be no connection with this problem.
Also, the check engine light stays on when the key is engaged-but nothing else happens.

29 rdstr, when you say the car will not start, are you saying that when in the START position, the engine turns over but will not fire, or are you saying that the engine will not rotate at all?
If you are saying that it is not rotating at all, then I would be looking at either a bad starter or a bad cable between the starter and battery. If you need more help than this, let me know.
If the motor will rotate but will not fire, then the first thing I would do is install a fuel pressure gauge and see what pressure you are getting on the fuel line. With the ignition in the RUN position and the engine not turning, the gauge should be reading between 40 and 50 psig. If the motor does run, then it will drop to around 30-40 psig. If you are not getting these pressures, then you are looking at most likely a bad fuel pump. Let me know and we can give you some more checks to do to confirm a bad fuel pump. If you are getting these pressures, then you are most likely looking at a spark issue. Based on the setup, you are most likely looking at something associated with the ECM. Let me know and we will give you some checks to do.

Engine does rotate! It appears to not be getting fuel since it does crank. Where would I connect the fuel pressure gauge once I get one? Any difficulty in the connection since the fuel lines are not like the old worm gear clamps?
------I decided to check the fuel pump fuse in the fuse panel (20 Amp)--it ws blown. Replaced with new fuse and car started and is running fine now at least for about five or six start cycles. It took that long for the check engine light to cycle off. Now the question is what caused the fuel pump fuse to blow????
