Default 2003 Jaguar X-Type Oil Light coming on

Hello. I thought I posted this, this morning, but I can't find it so I am typing again. I am new here, so maybe I did not post it correctly.

I have a 2003 Jaguar Xtype AWD 2.5 engine. It has about 131,000 miles on it. About a week ago, my oil light started coming on. I took it to my my mechanic. He thought it was the oil pressure sensor, so he put a new one on. The oil light still came on. So, he did an oil flush and changed the oil again. I had it done about a month ago. The oil light is still coming on. It comes on after the car has been driven from 15 to 30 minutes. Then, it will go off as I am driving and come on again when I step on the brake to slow down or stop at a red light. Then goes off again as I drive again. The oil the mechanic used was 5W30-N Castrol . On the receipt the filter says Filter-n. Can anyone suggest where I go from here? Not sure if I am going to have to take the car to a Jaguar dealership to be diagnosed. Every time I have taken my car there it turns out to be a very expensive trip. I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

Linda,

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to X-Type forum. This is the place to post technical questions about your model.

Welcome to the forum Linda,

Here's a thread related to your post https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...e-idle-205915/

Me personally; I would have a reputable independent repair shop (doesn't need to be Jaguar specific) check the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge. Not to second guess your mechanic; After replacing the sensor didn't fix the problem he should've used a mechanical gauge to confirm it is in fact a low oil pressure situation.

Do you hear any rattling/knocking from the engine? and what about the coolant temperature gauge, Normal or above normal?

Others will likely chime in and there's a wealth of knowledge on this forum.

Thanks for the advice BlownKitty. The coolant gauge is normal and there are no knocking noises coming from the engine. I will see if I can find someone else to take a look at it, that is not a dealership. I use the mechanic I go to because he is right next to my job so it is super convenient to drop the car off in the morning and pick it us after work. I can see his shop from my office window, so I know when he takes my car in to work on it. He has been in business for many many years and gets good reviews, so I do trust him. Although he admits that he does not get very many Jaguars through his shop.

Thanks again. Linda

I +1 on having it checked with a mechanical gauge
