Question 2003 X-type 2.5, Defroster - radio?

I have a 2003 X-type, 2.5. When I press the defrost button on, the radio statics badly and cannot hear it until I turn the defrost off again?

shula, what style radio do you have? Do you have the radio with separate heat-A/C controls or do you have the one with the integrated controls and Nav? That will help direct us to a likely problem and potentially a fix too.

Default Touch screen

The navigaition system and touch screen. Defrost button and rear defrost on right side of the screen.

I don't believe there is a fix for this. Based on previous years' thread discussions on this topic and my own experience with my non-nav system I have to say this behavior is normal.

I encourage others to try it as well just to confirm, tune in an FM station that is more than 8 - 10 miles away and then activate the rear defroster. The station will go staticky and may disappear altogether if it is far enough away.

A bad design as the FM antenna is in the rear glass parallel to the rear window heater grid.

Default I get static too

My '03 X-type 2.5L exhibits the same radio static during rear defrost use. Guessed it was the attenna/defrost proximity so glad (sort of...) to see I'm not alone.

Same here. I searched the forum and didn't find any answers. Radio has very good reception until I turn on the rear defrost. Oh well, I don't use the defrost very often but it is annoying. Guess I'll just have to put up with it.

My '03 2.5 radio reception is fine with the rear defrost "on." Great site and glad I joined. A lot of knowledge, experience, and support.
