2003 X Type wheel bearing sound? Youtube link included
Hi. My mom bought this 03 x type brand new and just passed it down to me about a year ago. I am now hearing a noise similar to a propeller from 35-50mph. The steering wheel also starts shaking/vibrating after 55mph. I don't know if the noise stops after 50mph or just the wind/road noise is just a lot louder. It is a 2.5 automatic AWD. Almost 82,000 miles. The wheels were aligned at the Jaguar dealership this past January around 2,000 miles ago. And the tires were changed at around 72,000 miles. Thanks in advance.

Best thing to do is take it to your local garage.
have them lift it in the air and have someone put the car in drive and get the speed up around 20-30 and see if you can find out what the noise is.
you will trip the check engine light as the wheels will run at different speeds but the garage should be able to reset it.
the pepboys in Lancaster did this for me unfortunately i found it was my transfer box bearings that had gone.

some new grease in the bearing may get you some more miles.
does the x-type have serviceable bearings or is it a sealed unit?
i had the wheel off of my 2006 this past weekend and noticed it had an abs sensor at the hub.
My excursions were described as having sealed wheel bearings ( 600$ each ) and with some advice from the internet i was able to remove the abs sensor and load the bearing with grease.
one of my excursion is coming up on 150,000 with original bearings and the excursion is naturally hard on wheel bearings.
couple things to look out for, i believe all greases do not blend well together so the original type should be matched as well as possible. my understanding is improper mixing of greases may cause it to harden ???
second thing to look out for is that sensor, pb blast it 24 hours prior and work it out slow .
not sure if this process can be performed on the x-type or not .
