2004 steering wheel removal
i finally found the wood wheel to match my trim and tried to install it today, but got no where. according to the JTIS, there are 2 screws on the back/side of the steering wheel that you remove to start. neither the wheel on my car nor the replacement has these 2 holes. they are both solid. anyone have any thoughts?

Remove the plasticsteering colum covers. Bottom piece first (2 screws), then the top (3 screws). The back of the steering will have 2 deep holes, you will need a long torx 30. That will free up the air bag. Next remove the center bolt to remove the steering wheel. 21mm I belive. Make sure you mark it so the new wheel wont be off center. Disconnect the 2 air bag connectors and a black connector.
Thats it.
Disconnect the battery before you work on airbags.

ok. i looked on the bottom (panel above your shins area) and saw the 2 torx screws holding in the lower panel, which has "airbag" on the upper left corner, but how does it come out after that? i can wiggle it a bit, but it still seems to be held on by something.
and thanx for the info.

the jaguar factory must employ magical gnomes to assemble the cars. even with a shoplight down there i could not see where any other bolts or snaps were located. i got the 2 torx on the panel, and i was able to remove the heating duct down there as well, but that is where it stopped. with the 2 torx out it would wiggle a bit back and forth for me, but not enought to reveal anything else really.
yes the battery was disconnected for about half an hour before i dug in there to drain the capacitors. strangely enough after having the battery disconnected for about 2 or 3 hours total i did not have to enter the code into the radio. lost all the presets of course, but it not only worked on recconecting but also still recognized the ACM.
i am gonna give it one more shot today and then take it to a friend's place who work on jag, bmw, mercedes and volvo. i got a hell of a deal on the wheel ($45 shipped to my door) so a little bit more out of pocket won't kill me and i won't possibly screw up the airbag.

change the steering wheel. to take the wheel off, first i have to remove the wheel airbag. to get to those screws i have to remove the steering column trim. to be able to remove the trim, i have to remove the trim plate that sits above where your shins would be if you were sitting in the drivers seat. that is the panel i cannot seem to remove.
