Default 2004 X Type 2.0 L Diesel won't start.

Heater plug icon flashes and strange fizzing sound from the driver's side bulk-head when I try to start the car. I tried the cam sensor idea by replacing it. I can't get the car to an analyst; (it won't start). Can anyone give me an idea what to do next before I need a new battery?

By heater light, do you mean the glow plug light? If so, read these posts, follow all links to see if this helps. It has some others =

Btw, way the "fizzing" sound can be duplicated if it's the same sound by going into the turn signal stalk diagnostics mode and listening as you sequence through the myriad there to the gauge" check one. That sound was exactly what mine did just before the battery gave up the ghost.

The turn signal stalk diagnostics can be reached =

The 'sizzling' sound is the same as a poor battery connection sound but coming from the driver's side bulk-head (the battery is on the passenger side at the front. At the same time the glow plug light flashes, after I have made the starting attempt, not during. It seems to want to start, but doesn't and I don't want to run the battery down completely.

Have you checked the battery cable(s) all the way from battery back? It sort of sounds like it might be a defective cable grounding out?

It was the battery, I gave in and called the Recovery guy. Not bad really the battery was the original Jaguar and it lasted 13 years and was still trying it's best. Good one Jaguar.

The only sign was the flashing coil icon with the sizzling sound. (Not in the Handbook). Anyhow back to enjoying the car again. I suppose we all have to relearn what we knew about cars eh? Thanks again for your help.
