Default 04 x type w/ gear box fault

I bought my 04Jag X Type 3.0 AWD about 4 years ago. Paid it off and the same week the Gear Box Fault light came on. I did what so many of you have done . I cut it off and then on and the light disappeared . This happened several times. The last time I did this the car refused to move altough I can feel it lurch when I shift it into drive or reverse. I simply had it towed to my house. Anyone know whether I need to start looking for a tranny or whatever? Any idea as far as cost? I love the car ! This is the first major fix since I bought it.

Default Trany was toasted

well had to have the transmission rebuilt. inside was toast. fluid looked like thick chocolate milk. ouch $2500.00 but what i have learned was not a bad price since its all wheel drive and not to many places want to touch these.
