My "new" X-type drove fine for the last 2000 miles.
But it started to jerk a bit for a split second during driving a couple of times.
Now it is very hard to start cold or warm.
If i floor the gas pedal it will get going and when it starts and after giving it some gas let's say 10 seconds it will idle on it's own a bit rough but it gets better as the engine gets warmer.
One thing i noticed the fuel pump takes longer to prime than usual when i put the key in the run position.
After that i can drive the car and when the engine is fully warm there are no problems anymore.
When i turn the hot engine of it will restart immediately, but the longer it sits the harder it is to start.
Sometimes in the morning it will fire up without flooring the gas paddle though.
Coils are in for the last 63000 miles, don't know about the plugs.
What are you guys thoughts?
Where do i have to look specifically with an X-type?
It has the 2.1 V6 petrol engine.
Before I read your last line, where you are suggesting the same, I was about to exactly suggest that:
Start with replacing the fuel filter. If it is the same system as on mine, it is actually quite simple: just press onto the blue "squares with something, BEFORE you remove the screws holding the lines in place.
My 2.1L drove just fine. Accidentally, the car stopped exactly at my destination far away from home, and then I had to get towed back, as it did not start anymore at all all of a sudden.
I don't think it is necessary to check on my X-Type in front of the door, as I have removed the air-intake that many times, that I am fairly sure that THIS goes THERE:
And yes: It is a vacuum hose and it would cause problems, if not connected...
Also: there should also be hose-clamp securing the hose.

I don't think it does have a hose clamp - mine certainly never has!
Hose clamp not so sure, dont see it on other x-type engines.
However, you are right where it should be connected.
Weird thing is, i found out i drove thousands of miles with that hose disconnected without any problems.
No check engine light either.

How could that be .
If enough OBD monitors are unset, then more and more codes can't flag (it doesn't know what to trust) and will probably run OL (open loop).
If it does, to protect the engine from catastrophe (lean!) it runs rich. So, worse MPG but also more burning fuel in the cats
It's bad for the cats - but lean would be worse.
Car will start and run for a second and then dies, all of the time.
If i disconnect the MAF it will start and run while giving it some gas, and after a small period of time it keeps idling smooth.
It goes in limp mode because of the disconnected MAF, after driving around a bit it will restart and idle instantly with warm engine and disconnected MAF.
When i turn the car off and plug the MAF in at that point the car dies again a second after i started it.
Problems started when mechanic cleaned out the airbox with compressed air.
So my guess is the compressed air hit the MAF and damaged it.
Can't be sure of that theory ofcourse, but i ordered a new MAF so whe shall see.
I did not see any vacuum leaks, and i guess if it won't start at all (with MAF connected) it must be a big vacuum leak to cause that?
If a new MAF won't solve my problem it maybe still is a vacuum leak or faulty injectors?
