Default 2005 Batter light issue

Hello everyone, here is the issue. The other day I started my 05 xtype, which started with no problem. but the battery light was on. I turned it off an went an check the voltage which was around 13 when off, I turned it back on an the light was off. I tested the voltage with it on an it was 15v. I drove it for over a week an no light. Today, the light came on as I started it again. Drove the to the store, got back in the car an it was off. Any idea what it could be?

How often do you use the car?
Do you double lock the car when unattended or left for any period of time?
When was the battery last checked/replaced?

Try fully charging the battery but also check the drain on the battery when the car has been stood.

Hope this helps,

I replaced the battery just last summer. I used the car 2-4 times per week, an just regularly lock it with remote.

You might have the bad battery cable issue that has plagued many other X-Type owners

The Battery charging system performs a two step process after starting...For a few minutes after starting the charger Volts UP up to around 15 volts to recharge the battery from the initial starting, then after about 10 minutes (can't remember exactly) It will dwell down to about 13.5Volts for continued trickle charge...If the Lower voltage is sensed at something less than 12 volts the Battery Icon will illuminate on the instrument cluster...

Mine did exactly the same thing yours is doing and I replaced ALL of the Red battery cables (+) all the way to the Alternator and all the Grounds (-), the problem went away...

My guess is like what emaraszek said..BAD BATTERY CABLES, as they become Highly resistive after years...Which ones likely?..I say it's a toss up, so do them ALL.

This was the last straw on the many little problems with this Model I've had..I sold the damn thing off for a new car about two weeks later...All problems now solved..

I had that problem and the shop had to replace the alternator because of a bad relay, all covered under warranty.

In refernce to the battery cables above, does anyone know what these cables usually run for in USD?

I also have the intermittent battery light. The battery checks out ok but is minimum 3 years old and the cables look to be original so both are due replacement very soon.

Jaguar Parts - Jaguar Battery Cables, Covers, Clips & Part

Jagbits suggest around $200 for the pair of cables. This is the only place I have found so far online selling OEM parts.

I read an old thread on this forum that generic cables with some modification work fine and cost much less. The only problem is - I'm not 100% clear what the modification entails or what to ask for - so I'll probably end up taking the expensive option but if someone has some thoughts they can share on how to do this cheaper, that would be great!!!

Most auto stores have a good selection cable lengths and connectors to choose from. Simply take your cables off and take them to the store and match them up... Should cost under $30 for both

There is more than one (+) cable and there is More than one (-) cable.. IMO..don't screw around with nickle and dime parts..get the Factory OE genuine and they will fit properly too.

Thanks for all the responses. I ended up just going to the dealer as they had them in stock. total otd was $208. I believe the positive terminal was around $76+tax and the negative was $115+tax.

I took a look at the two cables and determined that my cutting and splicing skills were definitely not up to the job of the non-OEM route so I've ordered the cable from the dealer too.

One problem remains that I'm hoping someone may be able to provide some advice to me on though - the negative cable enters the fuse box and I'm trying to work out how that is supposed to detach as there is no visible bolt to loosen or plug to pull unlike all the other connection points. Do I just hold my breath and yank harder? (.... as the actress said to the bishop...)
