Looking for that VIN in the back Thermo mentioned in another post and I was curious about a couple of things I found back there.
Why is there a 12 V outlet, the kind of thing that used to be called a cigarette lighter, under the carpet in the back?
Also in the back, on the driver's side, there is a cover with a latch that opens up to a stowage compartment that seems exactly the size of the cover and the latch. You might be able to store a business card in there but there certainly doesn't seem like enough space for a pack of gum. Why did they make a stowage compartment and not just put a single piece of trim here? One piece of plastic instead of 2 and it would eliminate the latch and the catch and a couple of fasteners.
The electrical outlet is principally for charging devices like laptops and I-pads or for coolers...remember that this is technology more than a decade old.
the co,part men to on the left side is the place where the CD changer and satnav unit gononce that plastic insert is removed. Your car has only the in-dash CD player but many of the wagons were fully optioned. Mine has the CD unit there.
anything else?
Thanks Gregory. I see the need for 12V ports for charging before cars all got USB ports, but under the carpet/deck?? That seems remarkably inconvenient, especially given that there isn't even an outlet for the kiddos in the back seat staring at those I-pads. I do like the idea of the 12V cooler in the back so long as I can get someone else to drive while I am back there with the cold drinks.
