Post 2006 X-Type Air Conditioner Blows Warm Air

My car is blowing warm air when I am in stop and go traffic. It works a little better when I am on the freeway. The freon was recharged and I do not see that as the issue. Fans seem to work and compressor seems to be running.

Pep Boys says I need to replace the compressor, two filters and clear the line. Seems the compressor is blowing metal shavings that is clogging up the line I asked about just flushing the line and going forward. They say now, I hve to do it all. The want $1700 to replace the compressor, two filters, clear the line, flush the system and then recharge it.

I am a little doubtful in the solution. Cannot I just replace the compressor or just flush the line. Any information would be helpful.

If I were you, I would get a second opinion elsewhere.

pboulos, had the exact same problem on my '07 X-type. Had dealer check system and found high side low and low side high. New compressor fixed problem. Thank goodness I have an extended warranty. Jack

So, based on the feedback and what I found from other threads here, I ordered my parts and I am getting ready to replace the compressor. In fact, I got a complete kit for $365 delivered. I will have to borrow a unit to pull the vaccum, but even if I had to buy one, a really nice one is only $150 or so. I will update the outcome.
