Default 2007 electrical problems (climate control comm, dsc, tail lights)

Hello all. First time jag owner with some frustrating problems. 2007 x2.2d, manual with sat nav

No climate control functions at all. When you push climate, it shows a comm error.

No brake lights (bulbs good)

Abs light on

Ive checked all fuses under hood and behind glove box with a meter, inspected all wiring and connections in the boot around dvd drive, and found nothing. Car is very clean in and out and runs/drives perfectly.

Any help is appreciated! Thanks

Tanjo, from the sounds of things, you have a few different issues going on. Lets start with what I would say is the most critical to the car, the reverse lights. If you look on top of the tranny, you will see the reverse light switch. Should have 2 wires attached to it. Disconnect this plug and turn it over so the open end of the plug is looking up at you. Now, using a paperclip or solid core wire, short the two terminals there. Do the reverse lights come on? If yes, then you have a bad reverse switch. If not, then using a multimeter, see if you have 12 VDC on the jumper wire.. If no power, then you most likely have a fuse that would appear good but is actually bad. This fuse would be fuse F34 in the passenger compartment fuse box. If you do have 12 VDC, then you have a bad wire between the front and rear of the car. This will take some time to figure out where it is. I would start in the back of the car and work your way forwards as most of the plugs are going to be near the rear of the car.

Now, for the ABS, I would say to start with getting the codes read to see if that is going to give you a start point. It is common for the X-Type to get the ABS light and most of the time it is caused by a bad wheel speed sensor or the associated ring. Getting the codes read, I would be specifically looking to see if you have codes C1145, C1155, C1165, or C1175. This would indicate one of your wheel speed sensors is bad. Start wtih the reluctance ring first and then move on to the sensor. If you need pointers on this, let me know.

As for your climate control. because you are seeing a comm error message, I would say to remove the radio and then see if any connectors are loose and then see what you have then. It could be something as simple as a connector has come loose.
