I have been driving the X-type in the cold the last few days and i have seen that my car doesnt shift into 5th gear until the car warms up slightly...since i go on a road thats 65mph right after i start the car..so it stays in 4th until slightly warm..is this normal???

Most cars do this until the tranny reaches not. I would suspect it i normal but I'm sure someone wiser than I will chime in regarting the x type trans specifically.

 

Have you changed the tranny fluid? The fluid breaks down over time. might be a bit low as well. That'll have an affect?

 

Agreed about the fluid but it doesn't make sense that it would just do it cold to me.
