Peace and Greetings to all my fellow JAG dudes and dudettes; I've just pruchased a used JAG 2K2 model, it had 32kmls on her whne I purchased her in July. Since then there have been instances of the "Engine malfunction light" sporadically coming on. I felt it was just do to the car maybe sitting for a while at the dealers. But now it's really acting up. I have a power sterring leakage, that I can only see it leaking from beneath the body, no hoses on eitherside of the PW steering depository seem to be leaking so it has to be something beneath, loose or cracked. Also I 'm getting the gearbox fault error message, which seems to slip the tranny at times. I'm trying to find a reputable repair shop without going to the dealer who I know is gonna take have of both my legs to pay for something that may be simple. I am trying to get uner the car to see if I can truly locate the leakage and maybe fix it myself. Any clues, I currently have 44k mls on her, and I know she is do for full maintenance overhaul accroding to the docuemntation in the OWNERS manual. Any other clues or tidbits... Here is the procedure to evaluate whether the Jaguar's diagnostic system has picked up a reason for the the check engine light (copied from the UK Jaguar forum - I've never tried to do this myself):

You hold down the computer button (on the end of the left hand stalk) whilst turning on the ignition. You can then step through all the codes that are being sensed at the time by single presses of the stalk.

I don't know. In the old days (1990's) there was a connector at the rear L/H of the engine bay to hook up the diagnostic system to. I get the impression that the codes are standard, and my guess is not just limited to the Ford empire, but common to GM and DCX as well.

But look again at the UK forum's instructions - it appears that you can do the diagnosis from the driver's seat using the controls there, implying that you don't have to buy anything. It may be worth confirming this with a dealer or just by trying it yourself.

 

I was offered a Warranty extension by a Jaguar dealer (from the original 4 year 50000 miles to 6 year 100,000 miles) for $1600. I get the4 impression that the price is flexible.
