Default 3.0 L Main and rod bearing torque values

I searched around the JTIS and this forum but still haven't been able to find the torque values and sequence for the rod and main bearings. Could someone on here help me out or point me in the right direction.

Thanks

dstolp, I found the information that you are after. As for the bolt sequence, if you look at the bottom of the block, you will see 4 bolts in a row on each of the support plates. The numbering sequence goes like this:

Flywheel

7 15 16 8

3 11 12 4

1 9 10 2

5 13 14 6

harmonic balancer (front of engine)

Now, for the torques, follow me here as there is no specific torque per se. These are torqued to yield bolts. So, you have 1 shot at doing these or else you have to buy new bolts (if you are thinking about reusing the old bolts, DON'T!!!!).

So, to torque the bolts, go in the pattern I described above, but torque the bolts as follows:

Bolts 1-8: 25 NM
Bolts 9-16: 40 NM
Bolts 1-16: Tighten an additional 90 degrees after torquing to the previous value.

So, you will end up touching each bolt twice, but make sure you get the initial torque on all the bolts before you tighten the additional 90 degrees. If you are unsure what I am talking about, look at section 301-01 (Engine): Assembly: Assembly - Engine. From there, scroll down to step 9. That has a picture and words for you to go by.

The remaining 6 bolts on the outside edge should be torqued in a similar sequence as the initial 16 to 25 NM.

Thermo, Thanks for your response. This is exactly the information I was looking for and you did a great job of explaining the procedure. My crank didn't get back before the weekend so haven't had a chance to put things back together yet.

When I look in my JTIS under 303-01 I only have the following categories: Specifications, General Procedures, Description and Operation, Diagnosis and Testing, Removal, Installation, In Vehicle Repair. Am I looking in the wrong place or is there a different version of the JTIS which contains the "Assembly" seciton?

I still need to find the connecting rod torque values.

Thanks for you help.

dstolp, look under section 301, not 303. 301 is the engine dismantling, not the basic engine components. As for the connecting rod torque values, let me give the JTIS a look over again. I think I missed that the first time.

dstolp, I found the values that you are looking for with the connecting rods. You will need to first tighten each cap to 23 NM. Next you will tighten each cap to 43 NM. Finally, you will need to turn each bolt an additional 105 degrees to get the torque to yield value.

As for finding the section that I am referring to, look at the bottom of JTIS and you will see what looks like a generic outline with indentions (second icon from the right at the very bottom of the screen). Click on that and it should bring up a listing on the left side of the monitor. If you click under section 3: Powertrain, you will then see section 303-01 : Engine. Under that, you will find Assembly, and finally under that Engine - Assembly. From there you can scroll through the list of instructions and get the step by step of how to re-assemble the engine.

I see the icon you ar talking about and have used it. But, I don't have an "Assembly" section under 303-01 : Engine. Maybe I have the wrong version of JTIS? I have JTIS Version 1.3 Buildlevel: 4.228.14 I would really like to have the engine assembly section as I know I'm going to have more questions such as oil pan bolt torque, etc. A big thanks for the help you have provided.
