Default 75w140ns fluid

I bought RedLine 75w140NS in regards to changing up my transfer case and rear differential fluids.

Only problem is, I checked the write up and it uses regular 75w140.. and I'm honestly not sure what the difference is between NS and non-NS, and if its still okay to use.

Any ideas?

Red Line Synthetic Oil - Gear Oil for Differentials - 75W140 NS GL-5 Gear Oil

"Contains extreme pressure additives like our 75W140 GL-5 oil, but lacks friction modifiers to balance slipperiness "

That would mean it does not have the usual friction modifiers used for LSD. But, the friction modifier can be added if your vehicle has LSD. Try any Ford dealer for the little bottle of additive if you need it.

However, it all depends on what your X-Type has and what the transfer case requires.

If your owners manual calls for conventional GL-5, then this is it.

You can also contact Redline tech support by email or telephone.

I don't believe it will be any problem. As I don't believe the X-type has "limited slip" diff's anywhere. (at least my 2003 does not)

But if yours does, and it chatters around sharp corners, put in a splash of the additive.

I was looking in the owners manual and couldn't find any specs on adding friction modifiers in.

2002 3.0L 5-speed Sport.

I am trying to look around to avoid further questions, but I don't have a certain answer for myself if I should add the modifier or not.

The friction modifier is not necessary. The lubricant is sufficient alone in nearly all cases, limited slip, or not.

As I mentioned, only "if" you have a particular type of limited slip differential, and only "if" it chatters around corners will the additive be necessary. Even then, only to prevent an annoyance (the chatter around corners) . The base lubricant is sufficient to prevent wear and to properly lubricate.

Torsen limited slips don't need it and never will.
