Default ABS/Check eng light on after wheel bearing

Hi I have a 04 X-Type 2.5 AWD. Replaced Rt frt. wheel bearing, ABS light then came on. Shortly after check engine came on. Thought maybe the ABS sensor was bad so I replaced that too. Lights still won't reset and shows P-1642 & P-1000. Researched and read the codes but that dosen't solve my problem of what could be wrong?

Any help would be great just don't want to be bent over at the dealer.

Thanks...John

Are you sure you didnt accidentally pinch the ABS sensor wire when you did the wheel bearing?

You changed the sensor, but how's the reluctor ring?

There is no "reluctor ring" on the front wheels. (maybe I sould not be harsh about this, - the usage of the word is very common, but technically inaccurate)
The sensor picks up on embedded magnets in the grease sheild of the wheel bearing.
If the bearing is installed backwards the magnets will be next to the hub side of the bearing and the sensor will have nothing to pick up.

Read the codes, there are several for the ABS.
They are incredibly missleading, but worth knowing.

Take alook at the bearing, make sure the correct bearing with the magnets is installed AND that it is installed the right way around. You will have to get your hands dirty and your nose right up close to the area!

The most likely fault is that You installed the bearing in BACKWARDS. The reluctor is built into the bearing and you installed the ring facing outward instead of toward the sensor.

P1642 is CAN short circuit fault. You tried to clear it and now you also have P1000 instead of P1111 and the readiness tests have to be performed again.
