Default ABS warning and wheel speed sensors

Had the ABS warning light come on about 5 miles into a drive. About 10 miles later I stopped briefly. Shut car off, went in a store, came back out in 5 minutes and started the car. The ABS light was out but the check engine light was on. Pulled out the code reader and saw C1165. Continued on 15 miles to the next stop. This time I was out of the car for maybe 30 minutes. When I started it up again the ABS warning light was on but the CEL was off. Drove home. Next day I took off the right rear wheel and removed the screw for the wheel speed sensor. When I pulled it out is had some iron filings on it. I cleaned it off and put everything back together. Drove 2 miles and the ABS warning light came on. Stopped at the hardware store and when I got back in the car and started it the ABS light was out but the CEL was on. About a mile later the ABS light came back on. Got home and checked the codes, it now says C1165 and C1175.

I had a C1165 and replaced the right rear wheel speed sensor 700 miles ago. It seems unlikely that a 16 year old wheel speed sensor on the left rear and a brand new one on the right rear would go bad within 20 miles. Seeing that I get both codes I can't swap right to left to see if the codes follow the sensor. Any ideas? Does the ABS warning light coming on before the CEL tell me anything?

Thanks. I looked at the right rear reluctor ring. It is quite rusty but is not broken and is not misaligned in places as that youtube video shows. Clearly it is out of round as a couple of the teeth show clean metal and the sensor shows some slight scuffing so there is interference. I made a spacer with 0.005" shim stock so no more interference.

Cleared the codes and took it for a test drive. ABS light came on about 100 feet after I put it in drive. Checked pending codes, I still get left and rear wheel speed sensors. Went ahead with a nice drive down some country roads and noticed the speedometer is no longer working. That is new.

If more than one "reading" from wheel sensors is off spec, it many times causes the speedometer to not work.
