abs dash light

ABS dash light comes on
I've had something new going on with my 02 x-type, it just turned 95000 miles. It happen once when I was on a road that was being repaired, the (abs) light on the dash came on, I was almost to my distination, and I turned it off when I started it the light went out. I checked the fluild in the master and I just thought maybe it was an air pocket in the unit and it was find. Now, about three weeks later I went on a trip (about 140 miles), and it came on again after hitting a bump in the rode, I was on the turn pike and I went to hit my curise and that won't work either. I stop on the turn pike for a pit stop. Started back up, light went out and curise came back on, no other problems the rest of the way home. I'm thinking maybe loose connection somewhere. I would be intrested in any one's thoughts, I installed brakes all the way around 7 or 8 months ago, seen no other problems with each wheel. But why no curise, with the abs dash light on. I have not checked it with a reader as of yet.

Checked with a trouble shooter read, there was no codes in system. I checked for fluild level, which was OK, checked all connections, wondering if maybe the ABS sensor maybe acting up, most of the time when it come on I'm on a rough road. Anybody have any thoughts or commnets, of what they may think might be happening? Thanks

I suspect you have problem with one of the ABS interuptor rings on one of the rear wheels.
The rings are spot welded to the outer CV joints and are very prone to corrosion and
splitting and detacting from the CV joint. When you hit the bump, the ring moved and the ABS system "lost" that wheel. It triggers a fault and shuts off the ABS and cruise control.
Belive it or not, the ECM takes input from all 4 wheels' ABS sensors to work the speedometer. If one is lost, it can not set the CC speed correctly so it shuts down the CC as well.
Anyway, see if you can take a look at the rear wheels and see if there is an problem with one of the rings--they are not easy to see. You need to look through a hole from the inside of the car looking out. You will need a flash light and need to rotate the wheel.

Vai, JagXV6 is on the right path. The rear wheel speed/ABS rings are prone to corrosion/breaking, which will lead to what you are seeing. Normally you can remove the rear tire, remove the ABS sensor and then using a flashlight, look into the whole left by the absent ABS sensor and take a good look at the ring. You can even rotate the hub some to see how the entire ring looks. From there you can determine which ring may be giving you heartaches. The rings are just stamped steel. So, if you see something that is starting to look too much like a sheet of paper or is moving such that you are having problems seeing it in the hole, that would be your problem child. If the rear ones look good, then you can do the same sort of check on the front wheels as they have a similar setup.

Thanks everyone who gave me the heads up on the wheel sensors, I pulled all the wheels, I couldn't get the sensors out, but I could see insde with a mirrow. I sprayed the inside with a good amount of WD40, I put about 65 miles on it today and the ABS light never came on at all (except when started). So I think the WD40 cleaned the sensor lens and fixed the problem. Thanks everyone.
