Default Adding a second key?

Hello,
Some conflicting information on the net about this and hope you guys can confirm.
I bought my car with just 1 key and I thought I might be able to buy a used key off eBay, replace the blade and then reprogramme the fob myself using the 4xignition method... Is it possible or will the transponder in the eBay bought key need some external (main dealer) reprogramming?

fico, yes and no. I am sure I just confused you. Let me explain.

Yes: The keyfob will unlock the doors and you will be able to use the features of the keyfob by following the programming instructions.

No: If you are looking to have the key to start the car, it WILL NOT WORK!!!!!! This requires 2 already programmed keys to accomplish or you need the special dealership computer to override the computer.

Keep in mind that there are 2 different numbers that the fob has. One is for starting the car, the other is for all the other functions. Hence the difference.

Cheers Thermo, yes, I would want a second key just in case this first one breaks (or gets lost) and leaves me carless.
What's the cheapest method? Is it much more expensive to go to the main dealer?

fico, you can try a locksmith that comes to your house. But, I know near me, not all of them do this service and those that do will hit you up for around $100 USD (about the price of the dealership). So, tough call.
