Advice about my 02 XType engine quitting today
Hey all you Jag fans,
I'm a new Jag owner and need some advice please.
First of all, I LOVE my cat car!
I call it my "cat car" because we do cat (feline) rescue. This car was perfect for me!
Today, while driving 60 mph, I'd let off the accelerator so I could slow down and make sure another vehicle wasn't going to pull out in front of me. Fortunately he did not but after accelerating once again, the engine quit. As I was coasting along with no power steering, I was able to pull into a farmers field. I turned the key off, called my husband, turned the key on again and it started right up. I turned around and it got me home.
The nearest Jaguar shop is a 5 hour drive so I got online and started searching for an answer. I did see that a common issue with this specific year is the "Mass air flow sensor." Does this sound familiar to anyone? If not, any other suggestions? The article also explained that it happens when its hot and affects "engine operation."
Good news is that my husband is a mechanic of 35 yrs however, he doesn't have Jaguar scanning capabilities nor has he ever worked on a Jaguar before.
Thanks for reading! Let's hope we can figure this out. I want my cat car back on the road!

If he has a scanner it'll read the generic data at least, so he can check for codes. If none, then check the LTFT values (at idle & 2500 rpm) looking for air leaks. Etc - it's a normal car so he should be right at home.
Any ODB-II scan tool will allow you to access basic readings with our Jags. Also, a Jaguar is just a car, nothing super about them. In fact, they have the crappiest tranny I've ever seen, :P hahaha. Have your husband scan it with his scanner and see if you can get us some codes, they'll help in determining where the problem is.
Hey you two,
Thanks so much for the replies. Yep, Brian is going to bring home a couple of different scanners tonight. I'll post again later after we see what happens. Enjoy your days! Thanks again!
