Default After Market Transmission Cooler

I have an x type Jag with a 2.1 auto 2005 Se

I live in Queensland where the climate is hot. Every car I have owned I always put an aftermarket transmission cooler on it. One car I put a magnefine in line transmission filter where you could not change the filter like the X type. I intend to do this also.

Has anybody put an aftermarket transmission cooler on their X type? If so what size, brand did you use?

Thanks in advance

My Jag has a OEM transmission cooler on it. Does the 2.1 differ?

Dell, his question is more around he knows that there is a cooler, but itis not sufficient for his environment. So, what have other people installed.

Sleeperau, I would think that if you say double the cooling surface, that should be sufficient. The trick is keeping the tranny temp under 160F. Above that, tranny wear starts to rise at a very dramatic rate with every 10F change. BUt, under 160F, you can drive the tranny just about forever. So, you may want to see what what the inlet and outlet temps are and then guage a size tranny cooler on that. I think whatever you do, you are going to be one of the first to do it. so, it will be a lot of experimentation and fabrication. Maybe you can find one that is roughly the same length, but go 2 or 3 times taller to get the added cooling area. This should make for atleast half the mounts being the same.

Hi,
i live in Noosa and my 05 3l is just fine. Unless you plan on towing something I don't think you need to spend the money . Very important to change the auto oil and flush the system with new oil.

A 20 to 25 row stacked plate cooler is the right size for that vehicle, brands like Derale, Mishimoto and Hayden are all solid choices and available in Australia. Stacked plate is worth the extra cost over tube and fin for better efficiency and airflow. The Magnefine inline filter is great insurance, just fit it on the return line coming back from the cooler rather than on the pressure side. Run your aftermarket cooler in series with the factory unit rather than replacing it so you get both working together for maximum cooling.
