Aftermarket TPS fails after a year
Last march I bought one of the new aftermarket TPS to avoid buying a whole new Throttle body. It has worked well with no failures until last night.
The aftermarket TPS failed in a really scary way . Car went into limp mode when trying to make a turn, and when I turned it of, I could not restart it. It was different than when the original TPS failed and went on limp mode. This time i could not accelerate at all but thankfully I coasted to a safe place. Once I calmed down I got the code reader and saw it was the TPS, I assumed bad wiring or a loose connector, but seeing that everything looked fine, I tapped the TPS lightly with a tool and felt and popping noise, like something unstuck itself. After that I was able to start the car and drive normally.
The aftermarket TPS was from E bay and cost me 40 dollars, but I would not recommend doing that. Specially with the failure mode I experienced. I thought th TPS was a relatively simple mechanism but whatever materials the AM part is made from have either melted or caused something to stick. I will be buying a new throttle body at this point
