Question Slipping transmission an easy repair?

Hello
My wife is looking at a 2003-2006 X-Type for a commuter car so she won't have to drive her Lexus hundreds of miles a week back and forth to work.
At least a couple of the ones she has found in good shape (?) have a "slipping transmission" between shiftpoints.
I've had vehicles before like this where a mere fluid/filter has fixed this problem, but I don't want her to spend thousands on a car Just In Case its an easy fix.

Any help?

If she hasn't bought the car yet, stay away from a slipping trans. As for her Lexus, we had one with over 700,000 miles on it, just by changing the oil every 3000 miles, and the trans fluid every 30,000 miles. Don't be afraid of putting miles on the Lexus, unless it is a lease.......Be cool.......Mike

Yeah, the Lexus she just bought new but wants to keep it that was as long as possible. The one she traded in for this one had 198,000 miles and was still fine, tho she was tired of it.

Cee Jay, just seems odd that she would find that same "slipping" in the transmission on multiple cars. Not saying it isn't possible, but that is not a typical problem you hear about on here. Maybe just a different way the Jaguar shifts compared with what she is used to. You could always take it to an independent mechanic to have everything checked out. Cheap insurance if you ask me.

Like you said, it could be just a simple flush and fill, but if you are wrong, that bargain could get really expensive very quickly. If you do get an X-Type it is a great idea to change all the fluids right away just so you know everything is good. There are plenty of Xs out there.

With the solenoids handling the shift points, as long as the fluid is crisp and there's enough of it, 'slipping' is something our cars transmissions really don't do...they either shift, or the gear goes away!
