Default Air Conditioner coolant leak

The air conditions coolant leaks only when driving. I filled it up yesterday. I checked, it prior to driving and it was still full. When I returned home it was empty. Can anyone help me.

do you mean that you are filling it with r134a and it is leaking only when you are driving? If so I would say you need a new ac compressor...

juanita, as the others are eluding to, are you adding freon (R-134a) and you are loosing all of that during a drive or are you talking about the engine coolant (bottle in the engine bay with either green or orange coolant in it that sits right in front of where you drive)?

If you are talking about the freon, then you have a problem with the system and you need to take it to a licensed tech to get a new compressor installed or have them determine where the leak is and replace that component.

If it is the engine coolant, you have 2 major offenders. The more obvious one is the overflow bottle itself. If you look at the firewall, you will see where a coolant hose enters the top of the bottle. Check that connection. It is known for cracking (will see a very obvious white line in the nipple as compared to the opaque look of the bottle). If this is the case, you need a new overflow bottle and then the coolant topped off.

The other offender is the water pump. If you look down at the engine/tranny behind the battery box, you will likely see some coolant sitting there on top of the tranny. IF you see this, your water pump most likely need replaced.

If these two things do not lead you where you are loosing coolant, then I would recommend taking it to a shop to have someone knowledgeable look the car over. Continuing to drive the car this way is going to result in a big repair bill. Much easier to take care of this when it is small than pushing things and doing something much more severe.
