Smile Airbag B2290 Code

Hi all,

I have a code 16 airbag fault. I have plugged it up and getting the code number B2290 Occupancy Classification System (OCS) Fault / status front passenger side. Someone has told me that I need the next part of the code number to make sure a get the right Diagnostics.

Any ideas where I can start to get this airbag light off?

Kind regards,

Does this happen with or without someone in the passenger seat? The under seat switch is marginal and can cause problems. This would be a good place to check.

Hi there,

It does not matter if anybody is in the passenger seat, the light is on all the time.

Strangely, Jaguar do not list B2290 in their X Type list. However, it is in the XK8 list and should give you what you need for the X Type. You'll find it on a few pages of this pdf doc of Flash codes indicating all the possible causes.

Hi astromorg,

Thanks for the advice, would it make it easier if i got the second part of the code i.e B2290 (**) If so would it be the dealer only that would be able to get the code?

Regards,

You are correct in that the dealer will be able get the specific 2 digit code to narrow the fault down.

From the sheet Astro has provided you could do some simple checking first on connectors or looking for frayed wiring before taking it to the dealer.

You might just find the problem and save yourself a bill.

Hi all,

I connected my Jaguar to the computer this and came up with the code and message below…

(B2290 occupant classification system status or fault front passenger side)

I have checked all the connections and came up with zip / zero…looks like I am going to have to take it to the dealer to get the value code

Although I did find this on the internet-

DTC B2290 Error value 27: Occupant Classification System module fault. Lamp flash code: 16

Possible Source(s):

* Occupant classification sensor module.

Action(s) to take:

* INSTALL a new passenger seat cushion. For additional information, refer to «Section 501-10».[Front Seat Cushion(501-10 Seating)] REPEAT the self-test, CLEAR the DTCs.

DTC B2290 Error value 26: Occupant Classification System communications fault. Lamp flash code: 16

Possible Source(s):

* Circuit(s).

DTC B2290 Error value 25: Occupant Classification System calibration fault. Lamp flash code: 16

Possible Source(s):

Action(s) to take:

* INSTALL a new passenger seat cushion. For additional information, refer to «Section 501-10».[Front Seat Cushion(501-10 Seating)] REPEAT the self-test, CLEAR the DTCs.

DTC B2290 Error value 24: Occupant Classification System sensing element fault. Lamp flash code: 16

I have to sympathise with your dilemma having spent almost six months troubleshooting an occupancy sensor fault code on my XK8.

The XK8 Supplementary Restraint System is even more complex than the X-Type but I think the basic troubleshooting procedure is similar.

Airbag B2290 Code-x-type-srs.jpg

(click on the image to enlarge it)

The Flash Code (16) and Chassis DTC only gets you as far as knowing it's something in the OCS. If similar the XK8 design, the associated PID code wil provide more detail.

The code B2290 is a concern as it doesn't appear in the Jaguar DTC listing. See the following Diagnosis & Testing procedure for the full list of X-Type SRS codes:

JTIS - X TYPE SRS Diagnosis & Testing.pdf

Apart from the dealer diagnostics, AutoEnginuity and Mongoose are believed to be reliable for 'B' codes but some other scantools are suspect.

The odds are it will be the Passenger Weight sensor but it could be the Seat Track Position Sensor. The JTIS procedure for replement of the Occupant Classification Sensor is too big to add here as an attachment. You can download free it from my MediaFire account by following this link:

http://www.mediafire.com/view/ziawev...ion_Sensor.pdf

The problem with going to the dealer is Jaguar policy that SRS components are not repairable and must be replaced. This could turn into an expensive repair if you are forced down that route.

Hi Graham,

Apologies for the wait response... Just got back from a week away in a log cabin with a hot tub too. Thanks for the advice and PDF's I will let you know the outcome and I will check the DCT code and try to get the PID code too.

Kind regards,
