Default Alarm Has Mind Of Its Own

I apologise in advace if this has aready been asked but i have atempted to search and could'nt find a solution.

My 2001 UK registered X-Type Jaguar alarm for the past week has started to sound/activate by it self at approximately 1030 each morning for no apparent reason.

I'm going out of my mind trying to figure out whats happening. It's driving me insane.

Many thanks in advance for any help

Okay alarm has just gone off again (04:30) and on trying to reset it with the key fob it made the double chirp as if a door wasn't closed.

On checking the car I got in and closed the driver door and started her up and the dash kept displaying "DRIVER DOOR OPEN" I think this may be the cause of the problem.

I managed to lock the car using the key, not the fob. Then after that the for would lock/unlock fine and then once again I got in the car etc closed the door and this time the message disappears.

I think there may be some kind of short or problem with the drivers door causing the alarm to sound.

Any ideas most welcome.

Welcome to the forum Jay,

I'll bet the neighbours are impressed.

The 'DRIVERS DOOR OPEN' message is triggered by a microswitch in the door lock actuator. If the mechanical functions operated by rods (interior / exterior handles and lock barrel) are all working properly, it's likely to be:

1. microswitch is sticking or has failed
2. door harness fault

On other models (XJ8 and XK8), a failed microswitch used to mean a new door loock as the switches weren't available separately from Jaguar until recently. This may be the same with the X-Type but I'll leave it to the model experts to advise on this.

If it turns out the require a doorlock, the cost of a new item will almost certainly be painful. However. there are specialist Jaguar breakers a few miles from you in both Darlington and Newcastle.

Hey Graham, thanks for the advice.

The neighbours are really loving it. Do you think doing a hard reset by disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes will make any difference?

I think what you say about the micro switch might be right as the barrel works fine with the key and all locks work even with the fob.

This is the first time I've seen the door error message.

It's just stumping me why it's happening at the same time every day without fail but not during the rest of the day???

Several members in the XK8/XKR section have replaced microswitches over the last few months. Sometimes a spray with penetrating oil can free up a sticking switch but this seems to be a temporary solution.

The security and locking systems are generally excluded from being affected by a hard reset to avoid a simple battery disconnect making life easy for a thief.
