All and any info
I only have 1 other post on the forums but I've been Consistently researching about power, modifications, tuners, etc and I've decided to go head first and try and make my 04 X-Type into essentially a GT car. Any information you guys have about tuners, swaps, power additions, transmission swaps, would be extremely helpful. Assume cost is of no concern and being street legal is a foreign concept.
Literally, any information you can give will be helpful. I did see a mid-engine swapped x type but it was just a picture so I am lost on how it was done. But as said info on Turbos, Superchargers, Swaps, Transmissions, Bodywork, Suspension systems, drivetrain, ECU, etc is extremely appreciated. Just pour it on and make some massive group knowledge board!

Jerry, the motor is not of concern. That can be easily boosted to around 360ish hp and run that way all day long. A decent turbo, add an air to air intercooler in there, you are pretty much done. Sure, you will need to take the car to a dyno to have the stock ECU modified to handle the new power, but that is of minor concern. Where you will run into problems is the transfer case. A lot of members have been doing some looking and in short, there are no viable options. You mention that you have an 04, Early 04 (ie, build date March 2004) or a later X-Type. The reason why I ask is that the later X-Types got a different transfer case and it seems to last a little better, but even that is subjective. You start pushing lots of power and that is going to give up the ghost first. So, you want your high horsepower X-Type, your biggest issue is going t obe the transfer case. Some members have contemplated adding more structural components to the outside of the transfer case as the problem seems to be twisting of the case, leading to it cracking and putting components out of place. But, what is needed where, that is beyond what most of us know and your best bet would be to scour wrecking yards and finding some trashed transfer cases to see how they are failing and then seeing what you can do from there. Otherwise, you are going to be building, destroying, modifying to take what you broke and make something better, to then break that because you found a new limiting component and then building up that, just to ....... You get the idea.
As for tires, without a lot of cutting, the biggest you can go is 235/45R17. Your limiting point is the back of the front wheel wells. I am sure if you do some cutting and welding, you can get the tires up to 255/40R17's. But ,I think that is going to be about it without reaching into your "the sky's the limit" funds.
The suspension will take just about anything that you will be able to toss at it. The one mod you will want to do is what most refer to as the "Thermo'd adjustable arm" (yes, named after me). In short, the rear upper suspension arm was not made adjustable from the factory. I found that if you get the arm from a Volvo S40 (which can be found adjustable), it fits on these cars and will help you dial in your tires where you want them. Along those lines, you can drop the car slightly simply by converting the springs from the standard suspension to the Sport suspension. Sure, you only get 40mm of drop, but if you are going with wider tires, I think you are going to find that this is going to push you to a limit if not beyond it (requiring some extensive modifications to the tops of the wheel wells).
As for exhaust, going bigger than dual 2.5" pipes (single 3.0" pipe) is going to be a waste and honestly, will kill any low end torque that especially the 3.0L motor is good for. Dual 2.5" exhaust will get you up into the 500 hp range which is well beyond what you are reasonably going to do with the Jaguar engine. Even then, I would suggest sticking with a 50 series muffler. You get the back pressure too low, you start throwing codes left and right (granted, you did say you weren't planning on making it street legal, so, that may be a mute point). But again, lower the back pressure too far and you kill the low end grunt that the 3.0L motor is great for.
You want to upgrade the brakes, I would not worry about that too much. The factory brakes are pretty impressive and with a good cross drill/slot setup with ceramic brakes, you are going to have to spend a lot of money to get a marginal improvement. Granted, you want that improvement, then you will need to look into the Mondeo 225 brake system and that is about as good as you are going to get without lots of custom work. But, I found the cross drilled/slotted rotors and ceramic pads was well more than I ever needed.
Honestly, your biggest gains for a track car are going to come by simply ripping the interior out and lightening up the car by 500 pounds or so. The X-Type corners very well. Sure, it could use a bit more off the line launch, but it is a mid size car that couldn't embarass its bigger brothers.
As for the motor, a rebuild will be a given. Lowering the compression from the factory 10.5:1 to say something more boost friendly (say 9.5:1) is going to be needed. This will also prep the engine for the power gains. Then say a 70mm turbo, intercooler, with a mild to aggressive port/polish on the heads and you are going to have something in the 350 hp range with minimal work. But, like I said before, your biggest problem is going to be the transfer case. Then you have the transmission. You are definintely going to want to put a shift kit into it if you stick with an automatic. This will limit the slip of the tranny and help it survive the power you have added. As for other upgrades, not sure what is out there. But, you are looking at a Jatco 5 speed tranny. See what you find. But, you will have issues with the transfer case long before the tranny.

On a side note, if you are wanting a track car, skip the X-Type and go straight to the Jaguar XES (3.0L supercharged AWD). That has all the mods that you want already done. I have driven the car on a closed course and let me tell you what, you toss a little bit wider tire on that car and you are going to have a monster. The car has 360 hp (which you can do a few upgrades and get it into the 400 hp range) from the factory. The transfer case will take the power. It does a 4 wheel slide very nicely (TRUST ME!!!!! Been there, done that), but it doesn't slide much. The money that you dropped into the X-TYpe to make it "track ready", the XE comes already done for probably less. sure, the X-TYpe is not going to be what most consider a fast track car, but those in the track community will have seen how the X-Type corners and will know what you have. So, if you are looking to make a sleeper, it won't be. I would find me a 2016 XES, spend the $20ishK for it and be done. I think you will turn a lot of heads with that car, especially if you +1 the tires on the car or go to a more track only tire.
If you were to go for an XE, best go the whole way and get one of these, Jaguar's fastest ever saloon!

Jaguar had developed a one-off X-type with a supercharged 3.0L engine It is currently part of the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Foundation.
