Hey all so i was curious earlier of installing a push button installation system which worked well. But now that the itch has been irritated so to speak, I was curious since I'm decently handy with wiring and soldering and electrical systems to a degree, could i go a few steps further and get a full remote start system to work on the jag?

It says to work the car has to have a mechanical steering wheel lock, 3 stage ignition switch meaning ACC, ON, and IGNITION START, and central locks. The X type has all these things so in theory according to them I'm good?

Curious on feedback here from some of the familiar faces and voices I've heard on what the word is here. Thanks for input and feedback in advance.

 

The only problem you will have is trying to fool the ignition switch. If you search the x308 you will find a whole thread on remote start. When I wanted one on my XJ8 the only way it would work was to have a key inserted in a hidden assembly that had to stay in the vehicle so that the security system could read the code for the key and tell the ECU it is OK to start.
The problem with that on a Jaguar is the alarm system can no longer set because it thinks you left the key in the car and the doors won't lock. Plus the computers will not shut down because they are awaiting the car to start up.

 

Isn't the transponder chip just the little pill thing in the fob? Could i take that out and place it near enough to the car's computer so that it is fooled into thinking it's cool to start? Or does it have to be inserted via key into the ignition to work?

 

Also the kit purchased has a RFID engine arm and disarm unit that gets wired into the car. So doesn't this bypass the chip transponder?

 

Georgio, the ECU will not allow spark to the spark plugs unless it recognizes a good RFID number. With this being said, if the "black box" that the remote comes with has an acceptable number, that number would have to be programmed into the ECU. Otherwise, no amount of bypassing is going to allow the engine to run.

Most people program a key and then cut it apart to pull out the RFID chip. Normally you can then tape the chip to the top of the ignition tumbler to allow the system to be fooled and allow a remote starting system to start the engine. BUt, this also opens you up to anyone coming into the car with a screw driver and with a little bit of force, rolling the ignition and starting the car.

 

alright so what I'm hearing is, either fasten my transponder chip to the car permanently so I can use a keyless button system leaving the car totally vulnerable, OR just stick with the key and push button system I have installed now.

Georgio, the only other option is to spend the big bucks on a system that would essentially completely rewire the dash of the car that would have a transponder like the new cars have. It would open up more options for you, but it also comes at a cost (say $1000 or more).

 

Why border? you still have to insert the key into the ignition lock, why take an extra step to push the button. Do the thing to cut the step, not add the step.
