Default Steering wheel whining

Anyone's X-Type have the issue of the steering wheel whinning when turning it? It is a very slight sqeeking/whinning sound, but it is there. Just wanted to know if anyone had any ideas, of what it could be.

Thanks guys[sm=icon_cheers.gif]

in some cases, it may even be just a bad bushing...

If it's not the bushing, I have a brand new steering assyembly in the box from jag that i acquired. I'll sell cheap, 60 bucks, plus shipping... your savings of 2,100 dollars

When I got mine it had the same whining sound. There's a fluid additive that jaguar supply for about £10. I added it to mine and it cured the noise.
Have a look here:-
Jaguar Power Steering Additive For PAS Rack X Type XJ | eBay

Although they don't appear to mail overseas but it must be available in the states.

Hi I have the same sound on my 2002 x-type.

@faltwen - If I have understood correctly, I buy this and add with the steering fluid correct?

Thanks

Yes. I did the same when my steering wheel was whining, I just added it to the steering fluid and drove around a few circles on full lock, left and right. Not only did the whiny noise disappear, but the steering became slightly smoother and lighter.

Perhaps this is a stupid question, but do you need to re-add this additive if you replace the power steering fluid?

Default steering whine, additive

Try here for the additive; https://www.jaguarparts.com/partscat.html

My power steering has no whine but the steering column has a slite noise in it as two of my chevy malibus have had, it comes and goes, fluid in them is not low and the steering in the 2005 is not the wheel to steering gear type it has servos that control the left and right turning of the wheels I have found that the upper bearing under the steering wheel makes a whining noise at times and can not be heard out side the vehicle with the bonnet open when the steering is turned full left and right.
