Mine makes the same noise. It isn't bad, and you can barely hear it, only when at really low speeds like when turing into my driveway.

I tried the link that Smith000 posted, but didn't see the fluid additive on there. And the only ebay seller that has it doesn't ship to the US.

Anyone know of a US source for this additive?

I seem to be having the same issues on my 2002 X-Type. It looks like jagbits.com might have what we need.

Jaguar POWER STEERING FLUID ADDITIVE - C2S48887

Also Terry's:

Just to confirm we are talking about the same problem. My squeak is just behind the steering wheel, you can't hear it in the footwell or under the bonnet. It sounds like "dry" rubber rubbing together or when you rub your finger on squeeky clean dry glass. It seems to come and go or be slightly louder on different days. Does the power steering fluid reach as far up as the steering wheel, because if not I'm not sure if the additive mentioned on this thread would cure it in my particular case? It's also been suggested spraying with oil/WD40 etc but having looked the steering column is pretty effectively sealed by the cover,. and I'm not sure if I am confident enough to remove it.

The additive is so cheap and easy to apply, why not just try it first? The additive-cured whine is a known problem with X/S/XJ of the era, yours can of course be something else but I think the best approach is to eliminate the cheapest-to-fix issues out of the equation first.

From what I understand, the problem is a seal in the steering rack, and the noise can be transmitted through the steering column. So, the noise can appear to be coming from the wheel even if that's not the problem. As Aonsaithya said, the additive is cheap, so it's worth a try.

I fixed mine with Sea-foam Trans-tune. Dumped about 2 oz in the power steering reservoir and drove it a few hundred miles, BAMO working good.

Howdy folks,
I used the Jag PSF additive (and procedure) about twelve months ago....... and the whine did go away.
The wife noticed it had returned (last week) but only temporarily.
So, no noise just now..... so dunno what that was all about ?
