Default anyone lost their little "leaper"?

Hey all,

I just have a general question. Some of the X-types have a little "leaper" on the hood. Back in the days, people used to snap it off for whatever reasons. (sell it, just for fun, or they are just being a$$ holes...) So my question is, has anyone lost their "leaper" yet or ever lost their little cat? And how should I prevent mine from being damaged or stolen?

Thanks to all, hope people won't damage our little cats anymore.

Merry XMas...

Mine was stolen, there are way to make the leaper removable, so you can take it off and walk away with no worries. I persdonal like the idea of running a electric current through it. And shocking the son of a b****. It definnitly sucks, they cost from 135- to 450 to replace. Theres even golden ones that are upwards of 1200. You will find a lto of stolen ones fro cheap, the later model jags ahev a spring loaded one.

There's really no way to prevent it from being stolen. Just be smart about where you park your car. It is pretty hard to rip it off. It swivels around in case something hits it.

I still cry a little every time I see the front of my car without its leaper... it was stolen a while back and I have a hard time paying $200 for it OEM or even $150 aftermarket... That's a very expensive kitty!

Are there any alternatives? 'When' my leaper gets stolen I would just like to replace it with a badge or something...

Can't afford to be replacing leapers!

Some of us have replaced the leaper with a badge. Search and you'll find a few discussions about it. I'm not a leaper fan and like my badge better.

To each his own, but put me down as pro-leaper all the way. It's like having a compass at the front of the hood pointing you down the road. Something about that I just find so existentially cool

Yeah, spousal unit not all interested in getting a Jag without the leaper.

Hope no one takes ours because I will have to replace it!

As an alternative to having it stolen, you can get a magnetic leaper (and leaper base) so you can take the leaper with you to avoid it getting stolen. Huge downfall to this is that it is pretty darn pricey... cheapest I have seen it was qround $350 depending on the Euro exchange rate, because so far I've only found them coming out of Europe.

Was stolen on the 2000 VDP, just got stolen on the 04 XJ. I must say that the car looks in a sorry state without the Leaper, but it an is item that will frequently get stoeln so I'll be replacing it with one of these

It depends on where you live if its a problem or not. I had mine parked at my high school and college and everywhere I went out and have not had a problem. *knock on wood*

If it's less than $300 to replace I would not think twice about it. 300+ then i would think about just replacing it with a badge. But I can't imagine driving an older jag w/o a leaper. I'm still sad the new ones don't even have it.

This is ironic and stupid. I just went down to my underground parking, and guess what, it's gone. This is totally retarded. I am totally crying rightnow.

I am just so heart broken that I lost my leaper. Guess I need to go for the badge for now. Maybe one day in the future when I keep my little kitten for display only, I'll put the leaper back on there.
