Default Atf drain plug

Hi I was wondering if this is the drain plug for the transmission fluid and if somebody could post a picture of the fill hole for the transmission fluid. It's a 2002 jaguar x type.

I have posted a link to a forum thread below that will give you everything you ever wanted to know about transmission drain and fill. The fill plug is just below the battery box. The fluid change procedure requires about 14 quarts and is done in 4 stages. 3.5 quarts at a time

Okay I just looked at that post. Am I in the correct place for the drain plug?

Use a 24mm socket for the drain plug. I posted some pictures of my ATF project. Search my posts to see them. I used the 3x drain/fill method with AMSOIL fluid, with excellent results. BTW, you can use the same ATF in the power steering system. Evacuate/refill the reservoir several times until the fluid gets cleaned up.

You're welcome. How many miles on your car? Since Jaguar said "lifetime fill" on this fluid (along with transfer case and differential) you'll probably be impressed as I was when you drain the transmission; the fluid's gonna look nasty. The tip Rob gave about using the turkey baster to fill really helped me - a very useful $1 spent! Make sure the new fluid meets Idemitsu K17 spec.

My jag has about 115000 miles on it. And I did go out and got a turkey baster so I'll be all set when I get off work. I'm going to use Carstrol transmax import multi vehicle. That seems to be what everybody is using and has not had any problems.

There you go. If you have a shallow enough drain pan you won't need to jack the front end up. After you do the first drain & fill the second and third rounds will go much quicker. Don't overtighten the drain plug, as it's not holding back any pressure to speak of. I don't know the torque setting but just snugged mine and it's holding fine with no leaks. You could put on a new crush washer but I reused mine.

Just did my first cycle this past weekend. Man was does that ATF fluid smell nasty! My car has 56,000 miles and it was black and ugly looking, but it was the smell that really put me off. Horrid.

Is there any way to keep from making a mess when you first release the bolt, or do you just have to deal with it?

Just FYI, read that the torque on the drain bolt is 45nm.

I use a wide shallow drain pan. No mess.
