I had exactly the same issue on my car 3 years ago. Unfortunately it was an expensive fix due to a failed solenoid which caused a clutch pack to burn out. The code that was thrown was P0734 4th Gear Out of Range.

Here is the link to the UK forum where I outlined the issue in a little more detail: Gearbox fault - P0734

Regards

Rob

so you had to have a clutch pack and solenoid or just the solenoid ? the solenoid looks easy to change in the manual

It needed both, which I understand was a transmission out job. Unfortunately here in Australia labour costs are somewhat high!
